The clichés are true – all you need to do is come to the wedding. That is a gift enough.
If you do want to do more, then we would be delighted if you took us out on a food adventure or contributed to our honeymoon.
Food adventure registry
We would like to reacquaint ourselves with the fantastic Melbourne food scene. You set the date and take us out, along with anyone else you would like to bring along. We have a wish list below, but if you know some gems that we don’t, all the better! They don’t have to be fancy restaurants.
All the restaurants are in Melbourne unless otherwise noted. To ‘claim’ a food adventure, email wedding@joanko.net. We provide a rough guide to price, from low ($) to high ($$$). Since some of these restaurants can be expensive, we encourage you to join up with others when claiming an adventure.

Honeymoon fund (red packets)
We would appreciate any help, big or small, you may want to offer to our honeymoon fund. It’s a Chinese wedding tradition to give hóng bāo–a small, red envelope containing money in even denominations. Red is considered lucky in Chinese culture and the envelope is traditionally marked with the Double Happiness character (双喜). Hóng bāo is a blessing for good luck so we’ll be delighted to receive some of these shiny things.
There’s more information about wedding red envelopes on the Chinatown website.
If you’d like to give us an ‘electronic’ hóng bāo, just tell us (wedding@joanko.net) and we will email you our electronic red envelope.
Gift ideas
If you would like to buy us a traditional wrapped up gift, surprise us! Some things we like are:
- High quality cooking gear, no matter how big or small
- Book and music vouchers
- Beautiful pens and notebooks
- Anything good for the environment
- Brainy games (not Monopoly or Guess Who!)
- Travelling and clever gear designed for outdoor adventures
Feel free to email us (wedding@joanko.net) if you want to check if we already have something.
